Day 5, Thursday, July 26, 2001

Rain in the evening which ended around 10 the next morning.  Fortunately, this was our two-day layover day.  There was an optional Century that 3 people did and one 45 mile trip that 5 or 6 decided to do.
Watkins Glen, our destination for days 4 and 5, is a famous auto racing area.  Plaques were embedded in the sidewalk dedicated to some of the famous people who raced here over the years.
Watkins Glen State Park, free admission
One of the options was a wine and cheese boat cruise of Seneca Lake
Above is one of the two salt factories in Watkins Glen - to the left the raceway for the autos.  Races used to be held along some of the roads in the town itself, but for the safety of all concerned it was moved to a race course in 1956.
