Victorian Week 2000 (Cape May's 10 day celebration of the Victorian Lifestyle) was held October 6 to October 19, 2000.  This is a yearly event during which time a number of these beautiful homes are open for tour. Many of the houses were what used to be known as "pattern book homes," in which the owners paged through catalogs and randomly selected designs and features that caught their fancy

These towers are located in various areas around the North Atlantic and were erected during World War II as spotting towers.  This one is on Cape May Point, near Sunset Beach.

Early morning "birders" - Cape May is on the migratory path for more than 400 species of birds and 100 species of butterflies heading south for the winter and north for the summer.

Stroll the shaded lanes of Historic Cold Spring Village's 20 acres as you step back in time to a South Jersey rural community of the mid-nineteenth century.  Visit with crafters and tradesmen, housewives and farmers of 150 years ago residing in 25 restored antique buildings.

Village is open from 10 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. weekends beginning Memorial Day Weekend.  Open daily late June through Labor Day and weekends in September.  Admission - free parking.

I've stopped here the last three years during the first week in October and while the village is not "officially open" (no buildings are open to tour), the grounds have been open so that you can walk through and see the exterior of the various buildings.  The leather shop has been open for business.

Another option while in the Cape May area is to take the Cape May-Lewes Ferry to Lewes, Delaware and cycle this area.  For rates and information call:  Cape May Terminal (609) 889-7200; toll free:  1-800-64-Ferry, website:  http://www.capemay-lewesferry.com.  I've taken the ferry a few times when I've done the Seagull Century, Salisbury, Maryland, which is about an hour's drive and about another half hour to Asseteague National Seashore.
