Narragansett Wheelmen Chapter

Sunday, August 19, 2001
Fort Getty, Jamestown, Rhode Island

I am a member of this Chapter of the League of American Bicyclists (they also sponsor TFCE - The Flattest Century in the East); this is the first year I've attended this event and hope to do so again.

Chicken barbeque dinner ($6 preregister, $10 day of the event)

Bike rides start at 10 (from 5 miles to 40 miles); dinner at 1:00 pm; relaxing on the beach, volleyball in the afternoon; chatting with biking buddies, or more cycling if you wish.

I chose the bike trip past the Beavertail Lighthouse (one can tour the lighthouse museum and adjacent marine wildlife museum), then headed into the town of Jamestown - about 18 miles total and a very scenic ride.

Maryann Pernorio ( MPernorio@aol.com ), a member of NBW, had just completed the prior weekend a cross-country bike trip to raise money for the Diabetes Association.  The trip started in June.  Her biking experiences will be posted under "What Your Peers Are Up To" soon.  She was very excited and happy about both her trip and the fact that she was able to raise over $50,000 for this very worthwhile organization.
