One of the big attractions to this area for me as a cyclist is the 8 mile bike path
located at Franconia State Park. This bike trail extends from Echo Lake to The Flume
area and enables a cyclist access to a number of attractions in the area without being
hampered by a motorized vehicle and seeking parking areas. You can stop at Echo
Lake, Cannon Mountain Tramway, the Ski Museum (free admission), views of Old Man in the
Mountains, the Basin, Flume Gorge. You can also pedal into Lincoln and Woodstock for
Clarks Trained Bears, Indianhead Resort with its ladder and view of the surrounding area.
While I was driving along the Kangamangus Highway, there must have been about 35 or
more cyclists pedaling from Lincoln to Conway. This is way beyond my biking
capabilities (I avoid hills when possible), but if you like uphills and downhills, go for
it! Please click on Kancamagus Highway and Beyond for
photos of the Kancamagus Highway and other White Mountain area attractions.Staying at
Fransted Campground in Franconia, I also enjoy biking into the town of Franconia and along
Route 18. It's about 10 miles to bike into Littletown, NH. Sugar Hill is just
about three miles (it does have a steep uphill climb) on Route 117 off of 18. Also
close by is the Robert Frost Place, about a 5 to 6 mile bike ride from the
campground. Follow the signs from Franconia Center - off Route 116.
Please click on The Frost Place and Sugar Hill to see
photos. (Unfortunately this summer's weather wasn't the best, so many of the photos
reflect other than sunny, bright days.)
One of the most popular destinations while in the White Mountain area is Mount
Washington, the East Coast's highest mountain peak. Please click on Mount Washington for photos and scanned images of this very
popular tourist attraction.
