Wright Brothers National Memorial - Site of Wilbur and Orville Wright's first powered flight on December 17, 1903.  The Visitor Center (being renovated when I was there in June of 2002) features full-scale reproductions of the Wright Flyer and Glider and interpretive presentations.  The grounds include historical markers of each attempted flight, a replica campsite, and a 60-foot granite monument in the Wright Brothers honor on top of Big Kill Devil Hill, a 90-foot dune.  Open year-round.  Tel:  252-441-7430.
